VOLNATOMIC collection by VOLNA

Yvan Arpa is setting the watchmaking planet on fire with theVOLNATOMIC, an explosive collection in which traditional Swiss watchmaking embodied through a self-winding movement, a Large Date Dubois Dépraz calibre and Concepto tourbillon play with the concept of forbidden territory and nuclear danger by adopting the famous black and yellow colour codes. Code diversion, creative irony and ostentatious provocation: Yvan Arpa is once again exploring forbidden territory. After lightning, rust and dust, all classic enemies of watchmaking, he is displaying the yellow and black colours seared into the collective consciousness as symbolising danger and embodying a warning signal. Nuclear technology, an explosive subject with strong negative connotations, is looking for enthusiasts, connoisseurs or initiates prepared to make light of threats and advocating atomic energy as epitomising the very essence of matter.

The toxic skull atomic symbol and emergency exit signs appear on a black and yellow dial framed by a bezel with a striped pattern composed of either alternating matt or polished black finishes or of alternating colours, according to the Crime Scene, Radioactive and Atomic Central models. The figurative elements on the watch, such as the warning triangle, the skull or the atomic propeller blade serve an aesthetic role as well as conveying a cleverly diverted symbolism. According to Yvan Arpa, “the use of irony via diverted codes is typical of contemporary art and in certain offbeat circles, but never in watchmaking.”
VOLNATOMIC appeals to natural “transgressors”, drawing them into dangerous and forbidden.

Panerai Radiomir Regatta 2010

The association between classic yachting and Officine Panerai has been renewed for 2010, with the sixth edition of Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, an international circuit of regattas reserved for vintage and classic sailing boats.
47mm brushed titanium case, “OP” crown, Panerai OP XXI caliber (automatic mechanical), 1/8th second counter at 9’oclock, Water resistant 100 meters, Leather strap with brushed titanium buckle.

Panerai Press Release: For the 2010 edition of the Panerai Classic, the circuit has grown thanks to new and prestigious regatta fields: for the first time, the historical British Classic Yacht Club Cowes Regatta (Isle of Wight, Great Britain) and the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta (Marblehead, USA) are also part of the circuit. The latter is one of the most famous and exclusive American yachting centres, as well as being the historical birthplace of the American Navy.

The inclusion of the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta represents an important change for the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, not just because of the prestige of the event but also, for the first time, the American regattas are combined to form an independent Trophy, parallel to that of the Mediterranean: the North American Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. This Trophy event takes place entirely in the waters of New England and is made up of the Marblehead Regatta, the Newport Opera House Cup and the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta, also in Newport. The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta Trophy however remains an independent event, and in April, like every year, it will open the Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge in the clear waters of the Caribbean island.

TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept

With the TAG Heuer Monaco V4 Concept Watch, TAG Heuer substituted the traditional pinion and gear transmission with a belt-driven mechanical transmission. Now, to mark its 150th anniversary, TAG Heuer proudly introduces the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the first-ever mechanical movement without hairspring.

TAG HEUER PENDULUM CONCEPT: A RADICAL “OUT OF THE BOX” RETHINK OF MECHANICAL TIME REGULATION DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE

Since the creation of the Galileo-inspired hairspring by Christiaan Huygens in 1675, the regulating organ of all mechanical watches has been based on a balance wheel and spiral-shaped torsion hairspring system. With the challenge of temperature diminished by Guillaume’s alloys, the spiral hairspring regulation system came to dominate mechanical movement design. In the TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the traditional hairspring is replaced by an “invisible” or virtual spring derived from magnets. TAG Heuer Pendulum Concept, the world’s first oscillator in a mechanical movement without hairspring, beats at 43,200/hour (6 Hertz) — making it a superlative representative of TAG Heuer’s unique mastery of high frequencies and ultimate precision.

Bodega – Converse Poorman Weapon

Bodega and Converse have once again joined forces – this time to re-imagine the Poorman Weapon as a sophisticated beast yet unseen by the world. Transforming the original silhouette into a super high-top that can be worn rolled down, the focus of this project was to achieve harmony between the chosen materials. An extra high refined waxed canvas upper is paired with a supple deerskin lining to make this Poorman’s Weapon seem not quite so poor.

The natural properties of deerskin leather shine with its extremely high strength and resistance to abrasion. Generally used for motorcycle gloves, deerskin’s unique fiber structure keeps you cool at high noon and warm as night falls. The charcoal colorway keeps this forward thinking shoe toned down, while a gusseted tongue and waxed laces combined with the leather’s inherent water repellent qualities keep it an all weather shoe.

This shoe is being released Saturday March 13 at Bodega and will come in a custom ballistic nylon case lined with shearling. An etched flask will be included for those over 21 years of age. This pack retails for $120, is limited to 100 sets and contains all the elements necessary for surviving the long winter and wet spring. Source
